Being a single mother is a very difficult job that you should get paid for! If you are a single mom you know that it is especially trying to get anything done. More often than not you have a full-time job, rely on daycare to help you, and wouldn’t have time or the money to get an education even if you wanted to. It may be time to prove to yourself and your children that you can do it. There are a number of different scholarships available for single mothers so do not feel left out. Your dream may be to excel in music. Let’s say you were in the school marching band in high school and really want to find the best music program out there but do not think you can afford it. There are also scholarships available for music majors! Depending on what kind of music program you are interested in, you can find a scholarship to fit what you are looking for. One music scholarship that is currently available is the CFJS Scholarship which can award anywhere from $500-$2,000. Another opportunity is the Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship Foundation. This award amount varies and the deadline is December 1st.
As previously mentioned being a single mom is not an easy task. However, there are a number of financial aid opportunities out there to help you eliminate the excuses and get back to school. You can no longer use income as an excuse not to go back to school. Not when there is the Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation which awards their scholarships to mother’s with low income to assist with living and education expenses.
If you are a good Math student there is the Association for Women in Mathematics who offers a prize to women who choose to study math as their primary course of study. There are also certain fellowships that will help women who are just entering college. The Selected Professions Fellowships will offer women awards of $5,000 or more who decide to enter a graduate program in STEM fields. There are an abundance of other opportunities available for women and single mothers. It can be challenging but it definitely can be done.
