Sad to hear of Calvin Kruk's passing

This is a real shame. Before he became mayor of Dawson Creek, Calvin Kruk was the General Manager of the Kiwanis Performing Arts Centre, and did a tremendous amount of work for his community in that arena.

Because of Mr. Kruk, in 2003 I had the great honour and privilege of touring with Judy Russell's Nutcracker to Dawson Creek's Unchangah Hall (similar to our Vanier). Those performances featured Brent Parolin as the Prince, who now dances at the Stuttgart Ballet in Germany, Izaak Smith as Fritz, now on national TV for So You Think You Can Dance Canada, and Cai Glover as the Snow King, who now dances professionally with Ballet Kelowna.

I must say the 3 shows we did there were very well received by that enthusiastic community, and it showed me how important arts and culture is to northern, resource-based towns.
