Event Details:
The next Cafe Scientifique will be held in Cafe Voltaire Wednesday, February 10, at
7:30 p.m. with the timely topic of air pollution up for consideration. It is titled
'So we know the air is polluted - now how do we know what to fix?' and is presented
by Peter L. Jackson - UNBC Environmental Science & Engineering Programs.
Air pollution is a problem in many communities. Once this is determined by
measuring air quality, the next question is: "How do we figure out what is
causing the air pollution?" so that steps can be taken to reduce it. For
some situations, the answer is obvious, but for others - complex airsheds
with many sources, quantifying the contribution of individual emitters to
air quality is more challenging. This presentation will outline some of
the methods that can be used to determine which sources contribute most
significantly to air quality problems, with examples from Prince George.
