Assistant Coach Jason Becker At Provincials U-17 Development Camp
BC Hockey is taking a good look at the top 1994-born players this week in Salmon Arm, as the 2010 Male Under 17 Provincial Development Camp takes place at the Sunwave Centre. One of the members of the camp staff is Prince George Cougars Assistant Coach Jason Becker, who will help develop the young players getting ready for hockey camps this fall and looking to earn a trip to Winnipeg at Christmas time for a shot at the World Under-17 Challenge.
BC Hockey’s main objectives for the camp are to train and evaluate the top 16-year old hockey players in the province in preparation for high performance hockey and to help select 21 players to be short listed for selection of Team Pacific at the World U-17 Challenge, which will be held December 28, 2010 to January 4, 2011 in Winnipeg. Of the 21 players to be short listed, 11 will be selected for Team Pacific in November, joining 11 players chosen from Alberta on the team.
13 of the 22 players who played for Team Pacific at the 2009 World Under 17 Challenge in Port Alberni were selected in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, led by Cougars forward Brett Connolly, who went sixth overall to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The U-17 Development Camp runs until Saturday, July 24.
