Adventure Camp for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children & Their Families

The PG Deaf Children’s Society is making great strides in its endeavors to support deaf and
hard of hearing children and has big plans for the second half of 2010. To kick things off for
the new school year, they’re hosting a three-day, overnight Adventure Camp for deaf and
hard of hearing children and their families from September 10-12, 2010 at Ness Lake Bible
Camp, near Prince George, BC.

The Society’s mandate includes providing support to parents and families of deaf and hard
of hearing children, offering educational opportunities to these children and their families,
providing opportunities for deaf and hard of hearing children to socialize with other deaf and
hard of hearing children including social activities in which families and parents can all
participate, learn from each other and offer each other support, all the while addressing the
isolation of deaf and hard of hearing children throughout Northern BC, particularly those
from smaller communities.

The Adventure Camp will include such activities as Wall-Climbing/Archery, Team-Building
Activities, Frisbee, Crafts, Scavenger Hunt, Sign Language Games , Campfire and ASL
stories. In addition to social and fun activities, there will be an educational component
including sign language skills and a speaker presentation for parents.

The outcome of the Adventure Camp includes increased communication skills, increased
self-confidence for the children and feelings of acceptance. At past Adventure Camps
children with little prior interest in learning sign language felt comfortable amongst the other
deaf and hard of hearing children and left the camp eager to learn more.

An early bird discount is available before August 10th. To receive a registration form or for
further information, please email pgdeaf [at] telus [dot] net or phone 250-563-2425.

The Society wishes to thank the Vancouver Sun Children’s Fund for the grant to help make
this camp possible as well as for the continued support from the United Way of Northern
British Columbia. The PG Deaf Children’s Society welcomes any new sponsors who wish to
donate craft supplies, snacks or games to help make this Adventure Camp a great success.

The PG Deaf Children’s Society is seeking a major corporate sponsor to help make possible
the hopes and dreams of the Society for its young members and their families on an
ongoing basis.
