Volunteering offers opportunities for all

While there are many shows, games and events to take in, there are hundreds of other opportunities for "something to do" that are fun, build skills, and contribute to the community. Thousands of people in Prince George have very rewarding experiences volunteering for numerous organizations and events throughout the year, and there is a constant need for new volunteers.

But how do the opportunities and volunteers find each other? That's where Volunteer Prince George comes in.

Jo Nore has been the Program Manager for Volunteer Prince George for 5 years, and continues to build programs and relationships that were started with the founding of the organization in 1991.

"There are a lot of youth looking for work experience, because they haven't had that first job and they want to gain some new skills. We also work a lot with the college and university students who are needing some hours for their courses. We also work with new Canadians because they are wanting to improve their English."

Volunteer Prince George also works as a clearing house for volunteer opportunities, and maintains a regular e-mail newsletter for those interested in finding ways they can contribute. "We do things for professionals who are in-between jobs and have time on their hands," says Nore. "They work as board members, and often provide professional services to non-profits, which is very good. "

Volunteer Prince George has over 100 members organizations in Prince George looking for volunteers in all areas of interest including arts & culture, sports, health, social services, environment, science & technology, administration, and more.
